Honoring Aaron Mefferd, Recipient of the 2026 Beth K. Smith Award

Women’s Employment Network is proud to honor Aaron Mefferd, Founder and Creative Director of Aaron Mefferd Creative, as the recipient of the 2026 Beth K. Smith Award.

Aaron was recognized at the 2026 WEN Annual Luncheon on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. This year’s luncheon theme, 40 & Fearless, celebrates WEN’s 40th anniversary and the courage, determination, and resilience of the women who have rebuilt their confidence and careers through WEN’s programs.

For the past eight years, Aaron has helped bring WEN’s mission to life through one of the most powerful tools we have: storytelling.

The Power of Storytelling in Advancing WEN’s Mission

At Women’s Employment Network, we know that stories create connection. They help people see beyond statistics and understand the real experiences, challenges, and victories of the women we serve.

Each year, the WEN Annual Luncheon gives our community the chance to witness that impact firsthand. Through the annual mission video, guests are invited into stories of courage, perseverance, and transformation. Those moments do more than inspire. They deepen understanding, build trust, and move people to invest in the future of women in our community.

Aaron Mefferd has played a vital role in shaping those moments.

Through his thoughtful approach and deep understanding of WEN’s work, Aaron has helped elevate the voices of women whose journeys reflect both hardship and hope. His work captures more than a message. It captures humanity. It honors the lived experiences of WEN participants while helping audiences understand the life-changing impact of sustained employment, career coaching, and community support.

A Lasting Impact on WEN and the Community

Over the years, Aaron’s storytelling has helped thousands of luncheon attendees connect more deeply with WEN’s mission. His videos have created space for women to share their stories in their own words and on their own terms. That kind of storytelling matters.

It matters because stories can change how people see one another.

It matters because stories can turn awareness into action.

And it matters because stories can inspire generosity that helps more women access the tools, support, and confidence they need to achieve economic independence.

As former WEN President Sherry Turner shared, Aaron has “a remarkable gift for storytelling” and captures “the courage, resilience, and determination of the women we serve in a way that honors their journeys and helps our community truly understand the impact of WEN’s mission.”

That impact has been felt far beyond the screen. In 2020, as WEN pivoted from an in-person luncheon to an online premiere event, a mission video produced by Aaron Mefferd Creative received a Silver Philly Award from Nonprofit Connect for Special Event Campaign. His work helped WEN continue to connect with supporters during a pivotal moment and showed just how powerful authentic storytelling can be.

Why the Beth K. Smith Award Matters

The Beth K. Smith Award is named for WEN co-founder Beth K. Smith and recognizes individuals and organizations whose leadership, generosity, and commitment help advance WEN’s mission of empowering women to achieve economic independence through sustained employment.

Aaron’s work reflects the heart of that mission.

He has helped WEN tell stories that honor women’s strength, celebrate growth, and reveal what is possible when women have access to the right support at the right time. His creative leadership has strengthened how WEN shares its impact with Kansas City and has helped build a deeper understanding of why this work matters.

Celebrating Aaron Mefferd at the 2026 WEN Annual Luncheon

The WEN Annual Luncheon has long been a meaningful gathering for business and community leaders who believe in the power and potential of women. This year, as WEN celebrates 40 years of impact, we are especially proud to honor someone whose storytelling has helped carry that impact to the community year after year.

Aaron Mefferd has shown that storytelling is not just about creating a video. It is about helping people feel, understand, and act. It is about building connection. It is about making sure the voices of women are heard with dignity, honesty, and care.

We are grateful for Aaron’s partnership, his vision, and the many ways his work has strengthened WEN’s mission.

Congratulations, Aaron Mefferd, recipient of the 2026 Beth K. Smith Award.
