Women’s Employment Network (WEN) wants to make our community aware of a recent issue affecting nonprofits across the country. GoFundMe recently created more than 1.4 million donation pages for registered 501(c)(3) organizations using public IRS and PayPal Giving Fund data without notifying or obtaining permission from the organizations. WEN was among those affected.

These automatically generated pages appeared legitimate, displaying organization logos, EINs, addresses, and links to websites and social media accounts. GoFundMe also applied transaction fees and, in some cases, these pages ranked higher than the nonprofits’ official websites in search results. Because these listings were not created or managed by the organizations themselves, donor information was not shared back with the nonprofits, preventing appropriate stewardship and acknowledgment.

GoFundMe has since issued a public statement and made updates, including removing optional tips and logos from unclaimed listings. However, WEN’s logo was still visible after the announcement. In response, WEN has taken action to ensure that we have full control over any listing associated with WEN .

We want to be transparent with our supporters and community. WEN does not use GoFundMe as a fundraising platform and has no active campaigns or donation pages hosted there.

If you wish to support WEN, please give directly through our secure website. Giving directly through WEN ensures that 100% of your gift supports our mission and has the greatest possible impact for women in our community.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.
